Large British Plastic Film Producers BPI were in need of power factor improvements due to the unwanted harmonic distortion on one of their sites. This was caused by a high degree of non-linear loads like Inverters.
We were contacted as one of the sites was suffering from harmonic distortion caused by a high degree of non liner loads like Inverters.
The inverters were originally installed to improve the efficiency of the individual process although an undesirable side effect can be the destruction of standard power factor correction capacitors.
Our detailed survey revealed that the plastic manufacturing site was non-compliant with regards to distortion emissions and most of the power factor correction capacitors had failed leading to very poor efficiency cross the plant and a considerable increase in energy consumption.
